Societies and Clubs

Society activities mainly happened in the evening and were very largely dependent on the enthusiasm and commitment of the teaching staff who oversaw the activities of the societies. Some societies were very popular and had a steady record of magazine reports of their activities. Some changed their name to reflect a shift in their prime interest. Some activities started off as society or clubs, but once recognised by the school as official school sports, ceased their evening meetings. This information comes from magazine reports, which were not always complete records of the societies’ existence. Some societies’ reports were more sporadic, and those societies which had fewer than five reports over the twenty five years are listed separately below.

Prep school societies, like their College counterparts, come and go according to the enthusiasm and willingness of both staff and boys. Prep societies take place after sport in the late afternoon.
